Coaches Comments: Team Expectations: 1. Build on last year’s success. 2. Make the playoffs & win playoff games. Keys to Success: 1. Continued improvement on the offensive line. 2. Newcomers stepping up and contributing. 3. Staying healthy, especially at the skill positions. Strengths: 1. OL & DL – returning 4 OL starters and an All-State player on DL. 2. Experience at QB – returning the Dist. 10-3A Newcomer of the Year. 3. Team speed. Weaknesses: 1. Depth at the skill positions. 2. Inexperience in the receiving core. District Outlook: 1. Van Alstyne 2. Commerce 3. Farmersville 4. Pottsboro

Returning Lettermen: 15

Returning Starters: Offense: 7 Defense: 5

Key Players:
* WR/DB Buck Wilson 753 yards 9 TDs receiving 1st Team All-District WR
* QB Sam Wells 2,204 yards 22 TDs passing Distict Newcomer Of The Year
* DL Cortez Crosby 93 tackles 1st Team All-District Committed to Memphis
* WR Hayden Jackson
* LB Daryian Hubbard
* DB Tarik Waters

Notes:
* Will move down to Class 2A for the first time since 1979 after going 8-3 in Class 3A last year
* Went 1-9 in 2009, 4-6 in 2010 and 8-3 in 2011 during head coach Wells 3 seasons

  • Mike Says: The Tigers are on an upward trend and they should continue that this season. Defensive lineman Crosby will be their top defender while the pass/catch duo of QB Wells and WR Wilson should have a big season running the spread offense. They will battle Van Alstyne for the district title this year and finish the regular season at 8-2 or 9-1. They are a top 15 team after dropping down from Class 3A. Expect them to go up against Daingerfield for the Regional crown.
  • Chris Says: Commerce is open for business - if football is your business.  The Tigers bring back some great experience and the drop down from Class 3A.  Those things, mean that Commerce should improve on last year's 8-3 record that saw them lose their playoff game to state championship finalist, Argyle.  While even Coach Wells thinks Van Alstyne will take the district, the Tigers will make the playoffs and will last longer than the first round.
