Yoakum Cruises To State
For the first time since 2016, the Yoakum Bulldogs are going to state. The Bulldogs punched their ticket to Arlington Friday night at the Pfield with a 71-27 drubbing of the Llano Yellowjackets. The Bulldogs dominated both sides of the ball, and Llano had no answer for the Bulldogs’ speed on offense.
When asked what the offensive game plan was for Yoakum, Head Coach Bo Robinson said the plan was to, “run it down their(Llano’s) throats.” Yoakum executed that plan to perfection. The Bulldogs gashed the Yellowjackets on the ground for nearly 400yards and nine rushing touchdowns. Receiver/running back Jace Morales led his team with 217 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Additionally, Morales threw for a touchdown on an 86-yard pass to receiver Kennan Dilworth. Dilworth also scored on a 29-yard touchdown run. Receiver/running back X’Zavier Barnett rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns, and running back Germarquis Robinson ran for 87 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, the Bulldogs tallied two interceptions, a fumble recovery and three sacks.
For Llano, the Yellowjackets kept the game competitive early but quickly let the game slip away. Following Yoakum’s first touchdown, Llano responded with a 60-yard touchdown pass from Luke Davis to Graham Prokop. However, the Bulldogs blocked the extra point and returned it for two points. The Yellowjackets did not find the end zone again for the rest of the half. During that time, Yoakum scored 34 unanswered points. Running back Jose Sillas scored all three touchdowns for Llano in the second half. Two touchdowns were on the ground along with one receiving touchdown. Defensively, the Yellowjackets were unable to contain the potent Yoakam offense. Six of Yoakum’s scores came on plays of 30 yards or longer.
Up next for Yoakum(13-2) is a trip to AT&T Stadium for the 3A-D1 Championship Game. Awaiting the Bulldogs will be the Grandview Zebras(13-2.) The Zebras advanced to the State Championship Game with a win over the Peaster Greyhounds. Grandview and Yoakum previously faced off in the 3A-D1 semifinals in 2018 which was also played at the Pfield. In that contest, Grandview came out on top 28-14; and the Zebras went on to beat Malakoff for the state championship. This year’s State Championship Game will take place Thursday, December 18, 2025, at 3:00pm CST.
