Mike Says: The Mavericks swept one of the best 4A districts last year. They bring back a lot of size, speed and playoff experience this season. The problem is that they move up to Class 5A and will now be one of the smallest schools. The offense will be led by QB Shane McCarley who will be protected up front by OL Travis Romero. He has some great receivers to throw to also in Bennett and Parker. The defense will also be very tough with DB Garner leading the way. Look for them to go 9-1 or 8-2 in the regular season and battle Pearland for the district title. They have a great non-district showdown with Galena Park North Shore early on. Once in the playoffs, they will go Division II and fight La Porte and Katy for the regional crown.

Chris Says: Manvel is retooled with another amazing team. They move up to Class 5A, but as we have seen at this level before, a good team is a good team. They will be a great threat through the air and will again be a lot of fun to watch. The folks in Pearland have to be wondering why so many people are picking the smallest school in the district to take the title, but they will have to deal with it. Manvel is that good!
