Texas high school footballMike Says: Both teams have had great seasons so far. The Hawks from Harlingen South think they are ready to challenge Big Red while the Cardinals want to stay on top. Both defenses are stout but the big difference will be the Cardinal passing game which is averaging 237 yards per game. The Cardinals own this series and have won the last 5 in a row. Now...make that 6 in a row. The CARDINALS win 28-20!!

Texas high school footballChris Says: Harlingen South  is having one heck of a season - even better than many people expect at this point.  The wins were expected, but the scores are the surprising thing.  The Hawks are putting on huge points on average teams, but their defense is straight up rocking.  In games featuring there six "like" opponents, Harlingen edges Harlingen South outscoring opponents 251-26 vs 235-31 for South. That tiny differential could be more than made up by Harlingen South's home field advantage.  I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that a changing of the guard is in order.  The HAWKS win 31-30!!

Texas high school footballLSG Intern Zach Says:  Mike called it when he said that these two would be playing for the district title this year. Both teams sport great defenses and offenses capable of piling up the points. In fact, they are eerily similar when you compare the box scores from teams they both have played. When it’s this close, I go with the home team though this is as close as it gets. Hawks 41-37.

Texas high school footballLSG Intern William Says: Two schools that are less than 15 minutes from each other and each are very similar. Harlingen has three shutouts to Harlingen South’s four. Both teams have held teams under 17 points when they win, the lone loss 35-23 to San Antonio Johnson by Harlingen. Both teams also put up impressive offensive numbers Harlingen averages 47.12 points per game, while Harlingen South averages 42.87 points. This game really has no apparent winner, but I’ll give the edge to Harlingen and senior quarterback Brandon Garza (1897 yards, 20 TDs). Cardinals 32-21.

Texas high school footballLSG Writer Scott Says: If anybody can have success against a salty Harlingen South defense, Harlingen is a good candidate. Brandon Garza has 20 touchdowns this season through the air, while eight different Cardinal players have rushed for touchdowns. At one point this season, Harlingen South had not allowed a touchdown over a 16-quarter span. South, however, can move the football on offense as well with an average of 434.1 yards per game. Sean Montemayor has 19 touchdown strikes this season. This should be an excellent game, with Harlingen South claiming a 28-27 victory.
