Updated: July 28, 2014
In association with Elite Scouting Services we have released the Top 100 recruiting prospects. We have broken them down by position for our ongoing series. These are the best recruiting prospects across the Texas high school football world.
Wide Receivers (12)/Tight End (1)
Jaelen Austin, South Grand Prairie, 6’3, 190
A prospect with an outstanding frame, Austin caught 28 passes for 428 yards and five touchdowns as a junior to earn First Team 7-5A All-District honors. Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Oregon, and Texas Tech appear to be in the lead for Austin heading into his Senior season.
Keke Coutee, Lufkin, 5’10, 185
Coutee is a consistent go-to performer for Lufkin, logging 129 receptions during a solid high school career. The former Texas commit caught 73 passes for 994 yards and eight touchdowns in 2013 to garner First Team 14-5A All-District recognition. Oklahoma, Tulsa, and Texas Tech appear to be in the lead.
Jordan Davis, Houston Clear Lake, 6’5, 255
The elite tight end out of Texas in the Class of 2015, the Texas A&M pledge has had a highly productive career thus far. Davis caught 39 passes for 558 yards and five touchdowns as a junior, and has more than 1,000 receiving yards during an impressive high school career.
Jalen Guyton, Allen, 6’0, 180
Guyton enters his final season of prep competition searching for a third straight Texas state championship. As a junior, the Notre Dame verbal was a viable vertical threat. Guyton finished with 42 receptions for 1,028 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2013, an average of 24.5 yards per grab.
John Humphrey, Houston Clear Falls, 5’10, 165
Speed kills in this case. The Baylor commit can flat out fly. As a junior, Humphrey earned First Team 24-5A All-District honors after snagging 66 passes for 816 yards and five touchdowns. Considered a “soft verbal” by some experts, Humphrey also has been courted by the likes of Arkansas, Louisville, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and TCU.
DaMarkus Lodge, Cedar Hill, 6’2, 190
Arguably the head of the class in Texas when it comes to 2015 wide receivers, Lodge is a prospect who is hard to track on vertical routes. The Texas A&M commit was a key playmaker as Cedar Hill took home the 5A-Division II state title. Lodge caught 72 passes for 1,255 yards and 22 touchdowns. Lodge is clearly one of the top receivers in the country.
A.D. Miller, Dallas Bishop Dunne, 6’4, 175
Another pass-catching prospect with a nice frame, the Illinois commit is hard to tame in the red zone. As a junior, Miller grabbed 34 passes for 482 yards and 10 touchdowns. Arizona State, Kentucky, Miami (FL), Michigan, Notre Dame, and Oregon all were interested in Miller before he settled on the Fighting Illini.
Ryan Newsome, Aledo, 5’9, 175
After a record-setting season on a record-setting team, the First Team TSWA All-State honoree is believed to be selecting between Notre Dame, Oregon, Oklahoma, Texas and UCLA. Newsome, who also grabbed District 7-4A MVP honors, returned seven punts for touchdowns to set a state record and tie a national record to go along with over 1,350 total yards and 18 touchdowns on offense.
Kemah Siverand, Houston Cypress Ridge, 6’0, 185
Siverand used his big-play ability to earn an offer from Texas A&M, an offer that he accepted. As a junior, the First Team 17-5A All-District pick hauled in 25 passes for 611 yards and seven touchdowns. Siverand is hoping to have similar success in 2014.
Jarrison Stewart, Mesquite Horn, 5’11, 175
Stewart caught 45 passes for 774 yards and six touchdowns as a junior to take home Second Team 12-5A All-District honors. Stewart verbally committed to TCU in January after his junior campaign and selected the Horned Frogsover an offer from SMU.
Carlos Strickland, Dallas Skyline, 6’5, 195
Strickland has a big-time frame and a big-time game. The Skyline Skyscraper caught 33 passes as a junior and finished with 719 yards and 10 touchdowns. Alabama, Clemson, LSU, Ohio State, and Oklahoma State are heavily pursuing the First Team 9-5A All-District selection.
Devontre Stricklin, Waco-Hewitt Midway, 6’3, 185
Big plays are part of Strickin’s repertoire, as evidenced by his 45 receptions for 1,023 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior. Stricklin will not have to go far to college, as the Waco area product has committed to Baylor. Expect more of the same with Stricklin and elite-level quarterback Ben Hicks hooking up again in 2014.
Kevin Thomas, DeSoto, 6’2, 180
Thomas had a very promising 2013 season for DFW powerhouse DeSoto. The Kansas pledge caught 60 passes for 822 yards and seven touchdowns to claim Second Team All-District honors as a junior. Clemson, Maryland, and Nebraska also were attempting to lure Thomas.
