Mike Says: Another great East Texas matchup. The glaring stat here is that Daingerfield lost to 3A Atlanta by 31 and Gilmer beat Atlanta by 21. This will be Gilmer’s opening home game after going on the road for the past 4 games. This will only be Daingerfield’s 2nd road game since week 0 in one of LSG’s game of the week vs. Arp. The Buckeyes bring a strong offense that has 1162 rushing yards and 744 passing yards through 4 games. QB Luke Turner (300 rushing 744 passing) and RB Gavin Holt (344 rushing) lead the offense. On defense they are led by LB Josh Walker (34 tackles 3 sacks), LB Adam Witcher (30 tackles), LB Colton Hill (28 tackles) and DB Tanner Barr (2 INTs 11 tackles). Just like their last 5 games, this will be no contest. The BUCKEYES win 30-13!!

Chris Says: Sometimes you get a game in the Games of the Week that may not be a great battle, but you know will be entertaining.  This one made the list just because it features two of the best programs in East Texas going head to head.  Sure, I would like to say that it will be a tight battle.  Sure, I will probably eat my words if Daingerfield steps up like they seem to do every time I start to doubt them.  Sure, this looks like an easy win for Gilmer.  Wow.  I am once again stalling because I cannot bring myself to pick against Daingerfield.  Well, until I look at Gilmer.  What the heck, GILMER wins 31-30!!!

(Week 0 2011): Daingerfield Tigers @ Arp Tigers

Texas high school football

Daingerfield won 44-14 last season.

Mike Says: Daingerfield won big last year on their way to a third consecutive state championship. Arp went the other direction falling to a 6-7 season. Just like last year, this is a matchup of a top 5 2A Division I (Daingerfield) and a top 10 2A Division II (Arp). This year the game is at Arp and they have something to prove. Daingerfield will bring a great defense though and the Daingerfield TIGERS win 32-14!!

Chris Says: I am not even sure why this one is in the Games of the Week.  Okay, I get the fact that they are both good in their class and division, but come on – this is not a contest.  Okay, Arp is a great program, but it is no match for Daingerfield this year.  Tigers get the win easy 40-13!!

LSG's 2010 Games Of The Year #6 – 10

Each year, Lone Star Gridiron reviews thousands of great games and picks out the best of the best from the previous season. This year, we had over 200 games in the running for those top 25 spots so narrowing it down was tougher than ever. It will long be debated which ones were better than others and which games should have made the list that didn’t. What is certain, however, is that this IS Texas high school football, and it doesn’t get any better than this!

This is the forth installment, counting down the top 25 games of 2010 with #’s 10 through 6.

# 10 Austin High 66, Belton 63 (OT)

This game featured over 1000 yards of total offense and had 13 different players scoring touchdowns.  Belton led 42-28 at half, but the second half was all Austin High.  Austin High sent the game into overtime with a 1 yard run as time expired to make the score 63-63 at the end of regulation.  In overtime, the Maroons were able to get an interception on Belton’s first possession.  They then took over and kicked a short field goal to end this 4 hour marathon.
