Mike Says: Neither of these teams have had much success in the playoffs until this year.   Its good to see a championship game where neither team has been to the Big Game before.   Melissa has impressed me in the playoffs with wins over 3-time defending champion Daingerfield and our #1 Pre-Season team New Boston.   We predicted Hempstead would make it to the semifinals against Tatum in the pre-season.  BUT we predicted that Tatum would win.  Hempstead came away with the big win to get here though.   I keep hearing the Hempstead fan last week telling us that you got it wrong….you got it wrong….you got it wrong with our prediction of Tatum beating them.   The BOBCATS win 14-12!!!

Chris Says: “You got it wrong… you got it wrong…”  That just keeps ringing in my ears from our December 9th podcast. That Hempstead fan was correct and I will be the first to admit it.  Besides, I loved that call-in…  expect me to be repeating that for the next year or so, “you got it wrong… you got it wrong…”  There is every reason in the book to choose Melissa in this game, but there is something about fired-up fans taking the time to call in or comment (hint, hint) that lets you know they have some passionate support behind their team.  Even if they are riding on passion alone, I cannot pick against that.  The BOBCATS take their first ever state title 20-17!!!!

Who do you think will win? Call in the voicemail line 713-568-6361 or leave a comment here!!!!

Mike Says: Mason will feature running back David Mora.   They have been routing teams in the playoffs except for pre-seaon top pick Ganado.   Stamford has been playing great behind quarterback Hagen Hutchinson (3078 passing, 1323 rushing 62 total touchdowns and WR/DB Jesse Ramos (90-1702 21 TD receiving,  8 INTs).  They were able to knock out defending champ Mart by 19 last week.  I like Stamford a lot but David Mora will lead the way to the championship.  The PUNCHERS win 28-21!!!

Chris Says:  We said when they played Ganado that game would determine the state champion.  Sure, there is a lot of press surrounding Stamford, but once again, we have to go with our prediction.  I won’t be surprised if Stamford gets the win because they are a flat out great team, but I think Mason finishes the job.  PUNCHERS win 21-14!!!

Mike Says: We picked Cibolo to be here but no one expected to see the Wildcats from Spring DeKaney to be here.   This game will feature two explosive offenses.   Tommy Armstong leads the strong running game of Cibolo Steele while Trey Williams leads the strong running game of Spring DeKaney.  Both of these schools are fairly new.  Cibolo began varsity play in 2006 and DeKaney started in 2008.    I have already picked DeKaney to lose several times in this playoff run and they are still around.  I am going to pick against them again.  The KNIGHTS win 30-20!!!!

Chris Says:  I am going to go with the upstart.  Trey Williams is an absolute beast!  While I really like Cibolo Steele, I just don’t think they have an answer for Williams.  If he is on – he will run away with the game (literally.)  It is a gamble, but you can’t always take the safe bet.  I think Cibolo Steele is a stronger team top to bottom and I know Michael Jinks is one of my favorite coaches, but sorry, Coach Jinks – I just can’t go against Trey Williams the way he has been playing.   Spring DeKaney will surprise a lot of folks in what may be the quickest trip from brand new team to state champion!  The WILDCATS win it 42-35!!!
