Over the last four year, the Dallas Area has dominated when it comes to state championships in football at the 4A and 5A level. During this time Southlake Carroll (three titles), Euless Trinity (two), Cedar Hill, Highland Park, Ennis and Lewisville-Hebron have earned the Dallas area nine titles. The rest of the state has combined for seven titles in the largest two classes. (Katy, Lamar Consolidated, Austin Lake Travis, San Antonio Alamo Heights, La Marque, Tyler Lee and Kilgore)
Will the rest of the state be able to even things out this year? Dallas earned only one state champion in football last year (Euless Trinity). Our top two teams in 4A are Everman and Austin Lake Travis while Euless Trinity and Arlington Bowie (8th overall) are the top ranked teams in the two 5A Divisions.
If these four win then the Dallas Area would claim 3 of the 4 Championships this year to continue their dominance.
The other contenders in 4A include Dallas Carter, Longview, Dayton, Wolfforth Frenship, Gregory-Portland, Denison, Kerrville Tivy, Alice, Port Lavaca Calhoun and Dallas Highland Park. Three of these ten are out of the Dallas area.
The remaining contenders in 5A include Odessa Permian, Allen, Pearland, Fort Bend Hightower, Smithson Valley, Katy Cinco Ranch, Round Rock Stony Point, Katy, Klein Oak and Los Fresnos. Allen is the only team out of the Dallas area in this group.
