Brian Orakpo, outstanding defensive end for the University of Texas Longhorns was named the 39th annual Rotary Lombardi award winner tonight in Houston. Orakpo was right at home in H-Town as he played high school football in Houston with Houston Lamar Redskins. This marks the first time in history that a former Houston, Texas high school football players has won the prestigious award.
The Lone Star Gridiron crew was on hand for the two-day event, hanging with Brian and the rest of the Lombardi finalists - James Lauraniatis (Ohio State), Rey Maualuga (USC), and Andre Smith (Alabama.)
The event was once again a huge success and once again, raised an enormous amount of money for the fight against cancer. As usual, Lone Star Gridiron is proud to be a continuing part of this very worthy cause.
Look for video segments shot at the two-day event in the next few days and join us all in congratulating Brian Orakpo on this tremendous win.
