Waco Hewitt Midway's Running back John Hubert passed a future NFL Hall Of Famer in rushing yards for a season last Friday night.  The Panthers back rushed for 301 yards against the Dallas Highland Park Scots during their third-round playoff victory and now has 2,558 on the year.

That total is 4 yards more than LaDainian Tomlinson had in 1996 when he set the city record.

If Midway can keep it going, Hubert has a chance to set the Central Texas single-season rushing mark and reach 3,000 yards.

Gatesville’s Taurean Henderson owns the Central Texas single-season rushing record with 2,953 yards when he led the Hornets to the 3A Division I state championship in 2000. Hubert needs 396 to pass Henderson and 442 to reach 3,000.

Hubert was sidelined for Midway’s season opener, a 17-7 loss to Alvarado on Aug. 29. Since then, he has rushing for 213 yards per game. Tomlinson averaged 182 yards through 14 games, while Henderson rushed for 197 per game as Gatesville went 15-0.

The Midway senior has also scored 37 touchdowns. Tomlinson scored 39 in 1996, while Henderson scored 31 in his record-setting season.

The 25th ranked Panthers will face the #6 Longview Lobos in the Class 4A Division I Region II final at 8 p.m. Saturday at Texas Stadium.
