Lufkin State Qualifying Tournament Pools

Here are the pools for the Lufkin State Qualifying Tournament. Four teams have qualified for the state tournament in this SQT. One qualified team will play in each pool (Lufkin has two teams and neither can advance).

Pool A: Lufkin, Willis, Brenham, Klein Collins

Willis went 1-2 last weekend at The Woodlands with a win over Klein Forest. Brenham has been a disappointing 1-5 in SQT play this year while Klein Collins has kept things close all year long. Lufkin has already qualified.

Mike's Pick: Klein Collins

Pool B: Conroe Oak Ridge, Diboll, Cypress Creek, Baytown Lee

Diboll has the athletes but I would really like to see them compete in the Divsion II tournament. Cypress Creek has been trying all year going 6-6 in SQT play and making it to the semifinals at Cypress Falls and the Texans (Sunday) SQT. Baytown Lee has forgotten how to play 7-on-7 without Olin.

Mike's Pick: Cypress Creek

Pool C: Klein, Nacogdoches, New Caney, Beaumont West Brook

Besides Klein who has already qualified, this is a pool full of newbies. Nacogdoches, New Caney and Beaumont West Brook are all making their SQT debuts this week. One of them is guaranteed to be playing in the semifinals.

Mike's Pick: Beaumont West Brook

Pool D: Lufkin #2*, Beaumont Central, Pasadena Dobie, Cy Falls

Pasadena Dobie has been playing very well all year and will be very tough in this pool. Again, they still are not participating in a Houston area SQT. Lufkin is close but its not really considered Houston. Cypress Falls has been struggling going 4-7 in SQT play and making it to the Cypress Falls and The Woodlands semifinals. Beaumont Central will be making their first showing in SQT play and Lufkin #2 cannot advance.

Mike's Pick: Pasadena Dobie

Semifinals Picks:

Cypress Creek over Klein Collins
Pasadena Dobie over Beaumont West Brook
