Updated: April 9, 2010
San Antonio O’Connor defensive coordinator David Malesky will take over for Danny Padron who resigned last month to become the head coach at Texas Lutheran.
Padron leaves after eight seasons at O’Connor. He had a 65-30 record while coaching the Panthers and has a 70-35 overall record.
Malesky started off as an assistant coach at Kingsville in 1990 then moved on to Harlandale in 1991 before going to San Antonio Jay in 1992. He was an assistant at Jay for eight seasons before becoming head coach at Jourdanton in 2000. He went 5-15 in two seasons there before resigning to go to O’Connor. Coach Malesky is the son of former San Antonio Holmes head coach Gary Malesky who led the Huskies to the state semifinals in 1980 and 1985.
O’Connor finished 5-6 last year, but made the playoffs for the seventh consecutive season. They will be in a very good 9 team district for the next two seasons. District 27-5A will consist of San Antonio Brandeis, San Antonio Clark, San Antonio Holmes, San Antonio Jay, San Antonio Marshall, San Antonio Stevens, San Antonio Taft, San Antonio Warren and O'Connor.
