Longtime Kirbyville Coach Takes Over At Ennis

2011 Coaching Change: Ennis Lions

Old Head Coach: Steve Marrow -- Was the interim head coach in 2010 leading the Lions to a 2-8 record. Marrow took over for Coach Sam Harrell who resigned before the 2010 season to battle multiple sclerosis.

New Head Coach: Jack Alvarez -- From 3A Kirbyville where he led the Wildcats to a 95-38-0 record over 11 seasons. His teams have 9 consecutive winning seasons including 4 consecutive 11+ win seasons. He has an overall record of 105-49-0. His other head coaching job was at West Sabine. Coach Alvarez turned things around while at Kirbyville after he took over a team that went 0-20 in the previous 2 years. He also led the Wilcats to the state championship game in 2008 & 2009 while they were in Class 2A. He is the all-time wins leader in Wildcat history.

Team News: The Lions 2010's 2 wins was the least since 1995 (16 years). They have now missed the playoffs for the second year in a row after winning state championships in 2000, 2001 and 2004. One of their key rivals is in the "Battle of 287" vs Waxahachi. The lead the series 12-6 since 1994 including a win in the playoffs in 2004.
