Harlingen 45, Abilene 44, 2OT
Harlingen earned some respect for valley teams when they defeated the Eagles from Abilene 45-44 in double overtime in San Antonio Saturday night. Abilene came back from a 38-24 deficit with only a little more than 3 minutes remaining in the game to send it into OT.
In the second overtime Abilene had tied the game up at 45 all but the Cardinals from Harlingen were flagged for a personal foul. The Ealges took the point off of the board and decided to go for two points from the 1 yard line after the penalty.
The Eagles lined up in the wildcat formation but the snap was fumbled. The runner recovered though and made a run to the goal line but was stopped 1/2 a yard short.
The win extends the Cardinals 24 game non district winning streak.
