2012 Final Week Playoff Scramble
With just one week to go in the 2012 Texas high school football season, there are a lot of teams scrambling to earn an appearance in the postseason. Here are some of the breakdowns. What are your thoughts? Who is going to be playing next week? Who is going to have an early exit? Here is what we think...
2012 Playoff Scenarios and Predictions
2-5A
4 teams (Midland Lee, Midland, San Angelo Central & Odessa Permian) are competing for 2 playoff spots. Midland plays 9-0 Abilene, Permian plays 2-7 Lubbock Coronado and Midland Lee & San Angelo Central play against each other.
Mikes Prediction : Midland will lose knocking them out of the playoffs. Midland Lee will win knocking San Angelo Central out and Permian will win putting them in as the 4th team.
Chris' Prediction: Odessa Permian and Midland Lee
3-5A
3 teams (Arlington Lamar, Arlington & North Crowley) are competing for 2 playoff spots. Arlington Lamar will play 2-7 Fort Worth Paschal while Arlington will play at North Crowley.
Mikes Prediction : Arlington Lamar & Arlington will win their games to claim the 2 spots
Chris' Prediction: Arlington Lamar & Arlington get the spots
12-5A
3 teams (Longview, Rockwall-Heath & Rockwall) are competing for 2 playoff spots. Longview plays Rockwall while Rockwall-Heath plays 1-8 Tyler Lee.

2 teams (Katy Morton Ranch & Katy Seven Lakes) will play each other for the final playoff spot

23-5A
3 teams (Fort Bend Hightower, Fort Bend Dulles & Fort Bend Elkins) are competing for the final playoff spot. Hightower will play 8-1 Bush. Dulles will play 6-3 Travis and Elkins will play 6-3 Austin.
Mikes Prediction : The Division I state runner from last year Hightower may not make the playoffs!!! Each of these 3 teams play the 3 teams that are already in the playoffs. All 3 of these teams lose this week creating a 3 way tie between them with 3-4 district records
Chris's Prediction: Hightower steps up to save face and earn the spot
18-4A
2 teams (Magnolia West & Waller) will play each other for the final playoff spot
Mikes Prediction : Magnolia West wins to advance
Chris's Prediction: Magnolia West's D steps up and they get the win
25-4A
3 teams (Cedar Park Vista Ridge, Austin Vandegrift & Leander Rouse) are competing for 2 playoff spots. Vista Ridge will play Rouse while Vandergrift is done with a 3-3 record.
Mikes Prediction : Vista Ridge wins to put them and Vandegrift into the playoffs.
Chris's Prediction: Vista Ridge & Vandegrift
27-4A
3 teams (Lockhart, Seguin & Boerne Champion) are competing for the final playoff spot. Champion will play Seguin while Lockhart plays at 6-3 Kerrville Tivy.
Mikes Prediction : Champion wins and Lockhart loses creating a 3 way tie all with 3-4 district records
Chris's Prediction: Seguin gets the win and the spot
30-4A
3 teams (Gregory-Portland, Victoria West & Victoria East) are competing for 2 playoff spots. Gregory-Portland plays West while East plays at 7-3 Corpus Christi Calallen.
Mikes Prediction : Gregory-Portland wins and East loses. This creates a tie between East & West with 2-4 district records. East beat West 54-40 in the regular season sending them to the playoffs.
Chris's Prediction: I agree that they will be tied after GP wins and East loses. I am not sure what they tiebreakers are though - as I pointed out in Five Big Things, the tiebreaker could have nothing to do with who won when tied. The district rules will determine who goes forward.
4-3A
3 teams (Midland Greenwood, Sweetwater & Snyder) are competing for the final playoff spot. Snyder will play at Greenwood while Sweetwater will play at 9-0 Abilene Wylie.
Mikes Prediction : Midland Greenwood wins and Sweetwater loses to put Greenwood in the playoffs

8-3A
3 teams (Liberty Hill, Burnet & Llano) are competing for the final playoff spot. Liberty Hill will play 9-0 Gatesville. Burnet will play 1-8 Lampasas and Llano will play at 5-4 Brownwood.
Mikes Prediction : Burnet wins while Liberty Hill and Llano lose putting Burnet into the playoffs.
Chris's Prediction: Burnet
13-3A
4 teams (Texarkana Liberty-Eylau, Paris North Lamar, Atlanta & Pittsburg) are competing for 2 playoff spots. Paris North Lamar will play 1-8 Texarkana Pleasant Grove. Liberty-Eylau will play 6-3 Paris. Atlanta will play at Pittsburg.
Mikes Prediction : Paris North Lamar, Liberty-Eylau and Atlanta all win. This puts Liberty-Eylau in the playoffs. North Lamar and Atlanta would be tied with 3-2 district records. North Lamar won their regular season matchup 35-26 putting them into the playoffs.
Chris's Prediction: Paris North Lamar and Atlanta go forward
17-3A
4 teams (Lorena, Waco La Vega, China Spring & Waco Connally) are competing for 3 playoff spots. China Spring plays at Lorena. Waco La Vega plays at 6-3 Robinson and Connally plays 1-8 West.
Mikes Prediction : Lorena, La Vega and Connally win. This puts Lorena and La Vega in. It puts Connally and China Spring in a tie with 3-2 district records. China Spring won their regular season matchup 35-21 putting them into the playoffs.
Chris's Prediction: Waco La Vega is the one team of these four that goes home.
26-3A
5 teams (Gonzales, Yoakum, Cuero, Giddings & Smithville) are competing for 2 playoff spots. Giddings will play at Yoakum. Gonzales will play at Smithville and Cuero will play 8-1 La Grange.
Mikes Prediction : Giddings and Gonzales will win and Cuero will lose. This puts Gonzales in. Yoakum, Giddings and Cuero will all be tied with a 2-3 district record.
Chris's Prediction: Yoakum and Gonzales move ahead
27-3A
3 teams (Geronimo Navarro, Boerne & Canyon Lake) are competing for 2 playoff spots. Navarro will play at Canyon Lake while Boerne plays at 6-3 Wimberley.
Mikes Prediction : Navarro wins and Boerne loses putting them both in.
Chris's Prediction: Navarro and Boerne move forward
1-2A DI
2 teams (Childress & Bushland) will play each other for the final playoff spot.

4 teams (Kirbyville, Anahuac, Woodville & Kountze) are all competing for the final playoff spot. Anahuac will play at Kountze. Kirbyville plays at 5-4 Warren while Woodville plays at 9-0 Newton.
Mikes Prediction : Anahuac and Kirbyville win while Woodville loses. This puts Anahuac and Kirbyville in a tie with 4-3 district records. Anahuac beat Kirbyville in the regular season 32-16 so they will advance.
7-2A DII
3 teams (Leonard, Tom Bean & S&S Consolidated) are competing for 2 playoff spots. Leonard will play at S&S Consolidated while Tom Bean will play 0-9 Bells.
Mikes Prediction : Leonard & Tom Bean win putting them both into the playoffs
Chris's Prediction: Tom Bean and Leonard get the spots
12-2A DII
4 teams (Deweyville, New Waverly, Corrigan-Camden & Groveton) are competing for 3 playoff spots. New Waverly will play at 1-8 Hemphill. Deweyville will play Groveton and Corrigan-Camden will play at 1-8 Anderson-Shiro.
Mikes Prediction : New Waverly, Deweyville and Corrigan-Camden all win putting them all into the playoffs
Chris's Prediction: Groveton is the one of the four that misses the playoffs
6-1A DI
3 teams (Cayuga, Kerens & Dallas Gateway Charter) are competing for 2 playoff spots. Kerens will play 5-4 Italy and Cayuga will play @ Dallas Gateway Charter.
Mikes Prediction : Kerens and Cayuga win putting them both into the playoffs.
Chris's Prediction: Kerens and Cayuga make it to the postseason
15-1A DI
4 teams (Ganado, Yorktown, Three Rivers & Kenedy) are competing for 2 playoff spots. Kenedy plays at Yorktown while Ganado plays at Three Rivers.
Mikes Prediction : Yorktown and Ganado win putting them both into the playoffs.

1-1A DII
3 teams (Booker, Wheeler & Shamrock are competing for 2 playoff spots. Booker plays at Shamrock while Wheeler plays at 9-0 Wellington.
Mikes Prediction : Booker wins and Wheeler loses but they both make the playoffs

2 teams (Woodsboro and Louise) will play each other for the final playoff spot.
