2013 Coaching Change: Jefferson Bulldogs
Old Head Coach: Jerry Bennett -- Retired after leading the Bulldogs to a 12-9 record over 2 seasons. Before taking over the Bulldogs, he was a head coach at 2A Linden-Kildare where he led the Tigers to an overall 20-16 record over the last three seasons. He was the head coach here at Jefferson for 19 years 1982-2000. His record with the Bulldogs during that time was 122-83-5. Coach Bennett was the head coach during the 1986 3A Championship season when they defeated Cuero 24-0. The field at Jeffersons W. F. Lockett Stadium is name after coach Bennett (Jerry Bennett Field). He is the all-time leader in coaching wins at Jefferson and has an all-time coaching record of 171-73-5. His all-time coaching record ranks him in the Top 160 in all-time coaching wins. He also spent 6 1/2-years as an assistant at SMU. when one of his brothers, Phil Bennett was their head coach.
New Head Coach: Derek Simmons -- Was the Bulldogs offensive coordinator. He was also the offensive coordinator under Jerry Bennett at both Jefferson and Linden-Kildare. His only head coaching position was at Ore City from 2004-2007 going 6-33.
