Gucci Bowl Taco Shack Bowl & Other Rivalry Games & Milestones
-
Updated: August 29, 2013
Are you ready for some football? I am and have a list of rivalry games and milestones for this week.
Seminole head coach Chris Burtch could be to be all-time winningest coach at Seminole High School: Burtch is 60-45, with the opening game against Merkel he will look to pass the man he replaced in 2003 Army Salinas. It took Salinas 12 years to compile his 60-70-2 record while Burtch only took 8 years to get his 60 wins. Burtch also has the highest winning percentage in Seminole history at .571.
Red Oak head coach Mike Shields could be all-time winningest coach at Red Oak High School: Shields is 40-28, with his opening game against Wylie East Shields will look to pass Gaines Wolaver (1967-1975) who is 40-49-1. Shields only has 2 losing seasons and helped Red Oak break the 12 losing seasons they had in 13 years (1994-2006) with a 10-3 record in 2007.
One of my favorite rivalries is the East Texas Clash between Tyler John Tyler and Lufkin which is always a blast. I cannot believe that one did not make our game of the week list. Tyler has an all-time edge of 35-28-3 including 1-1 playoffs all-time vs. the Panthers. Lufkin has won 2 of the last 3 though but the Lions won last year 35-21.
Throw in the "Gucci Bowl" between Northside Clark & San Antonio Churchill along with the "Taco Shack Bowl" that features Austin Anderson vs. Austin McCallum and the "Clash Of The Causeway" between La Marque & Galveston Ball you have a great start to the season.
On the milestone side, Shiner is going for their 425th all-time win during their 700th all-time game this week against the Cobras from Vanderbilt Industrial. The Comanches are 1-2 vs. the Cobras over the last 3 seasons but won 36-13 last year and are ranked #7 in our Pre-Season Class 1A Division I Rankings.
The Woodlands head coach Mark Schmid will be trying for his 75th win as the man in charge for the Highlanders. It will be a tough one though as they take on Dallas Skyline. The Raiders from Skyline beat the Highlanders 42-28 last year to open up the season and also won 35-31 in the 2011 Quarterfinals.
Two teams are going for milestones that are featured in our games of the week. Cedar Park will be trying for their 100th all-time win during their big game against Austin Westlake. Refugio's head coach Jason Herring will be trying for his 150 all-time win during their match-up against Ingleside.
All that and Graham's head coach Kenny Davidson and Cameron Yoe's head coach Rick Rhoades going for their 125th all-time win, La Marque playing in their 800th all-time game, Silsbee going for their 475th all-time win, both Newton & Cisco going for their 500th all-time win and Falls City playing in their 650th all-time game.
So.....Get Ready For Some Football!!!
