Austin Westlake at Cibolo Steele: Steele 49-21
In what was considered one of the top games in 5A heading into Week 3, as it turns out Cibolo Steele is still Cibolo Steele. In soggy Schertz, Steele used a 283-yard outburst from Texas Tech commit Justin Stockton to roll over Austin Westlake, 49-21. Stockton rushed for four touchdowns in the rout, reaching pay dirt from 6, 29, 64, and 67 yards. Steele quarterback L.G. Williams added touchdowns on the ground and through the air for the Knights. Westlake quarterback Jordan Severt, an SMU commit, threw for 216 yards and a touchdown in a losing effort. Sean Rollings caught nine passes for 132 yards, including a 12-yard touchdown grab from Severt in a losing effort.
Smithson Valley at San Antonio Madison: Smithson Valley 47-20
The television crowd on Thursday night in Alamo City was treated to a mild surprise as Louisiana-Monroe commit Garrett Smith got Smithson Valley off to a fast start en route to a 47-20 victory over highly-touted San Antonio Madison. Smith led the Rangers to a 21-0 lead after the first quarter and would finish 10 of 13 passing for 228 yards and a pair of touchdowns through the air. Smith added 129 yards rushing and a touchdown with running back Cameron Jones added 156 yards and two rushing scores on 14 carries for Smithson Valley. Madison quarterback Cody Ennis threw for two touchdowns in the loss, while Texas Tech commit Byron Daniels added 60 yards on five catches, including a 15-yard touchdown.
Elgin at Georgetown: Elgin 37-0
In a game featured on Fox Sports Southwest’s Football Friday show, Elgin flattened hosts Georgetown, 37-0. Quarterback Te’Rel Simmons ran up 336 total yards and three touchdowns in the impressive victory. Twin brother Da’Trean Simmons opened the game with a 1-yard run and later picked up a 44-yard scoring run for Elgin, who moves to 4-0 on the season while handing Georgetown its first loss of the campaign. Elgin’s defense held Georgetown to 94 yards on 29 carries.
Austin Travis at Austin Akins: Travis 68-42
Austin Travis is a team to watch out of the capital city after moving to 4-0 with a 68-42 victory over Austin Akins. Senior quarterback Jonathon Caldwell finished 19 of 26 through the air for 246 yards and four touchdowns to lead the way for the Rebels. Junior running back Eric Strait, who rushed for 267 yards and scored six touchdowns in Week 1, finished with three rushing touchdowns to pace Travis, Keiman Reynolds finished with nine receptions for 121 yards and a touchdown. Junior Ryan Medrano threw for 254 yards and two scores for Akins, while Teddy Lowery rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns.
Lorena at Grandview: Lorena 50-29
Lorena quarterback Harris Coleman rushed for 195 yards and five touchdowns as Lorena handed Grandview its second straight loss, 50-29. Grandview, which averaged more than 500 yards of offense per game coming into the contest, was held to 267 yards. With nine minutes remaining, Grandview tied the game with a touchdown run from Jordan Martinez before Coleman took over. Lorena was led by defensive end Cody Williams on defense. Williams recorded 16 tackles, three sacks, and forced two fumbles.
Waco La Vega at Stephenville: Stephenville 56-23
Junior quarterback Jarrett Stidham is looking closer to having the breakout campaign many expected for Stephenville. Stidham, who already has a handful of Division I offers, totaled five touchdowns in a 56-23 victory over Waco La Vega. Stidham completed 11 of 15 passes for 212 yards and three touchdowns and added 117 yards rushing on eight carries. Brock Morrison caught five passes to pace the Yellow Jackets for 81 yards, hooking up twice with Stidham for touchdown strikes. La Vega trailed 21-16 with 3:29 left in the first half behind an impressive performance from Ayorinde Gibson before Stephenville pulled away.
