Mike Says: Time for some Valley Football and the 2nd edition of the "Tinaco Bowl". This will be Weslaco's Head Coach Tony Villarreal's 100th game at Weslaco. He has led them to a 67-32 record during his time with the Panthers. This rivaly game will be more important to East though. A loss here will put them in jeopardy of missing the playoffs with a 3-2 district record. I think that alone will give them the incentive they need to win this one. The WILDCATS win it 28-24!!
Chris Says: It doesn't get any better than this - the battle of Weslaco. It is still very early in this rivalry, but rest assured it will be one of the great ones. Weslaco East won easily last season but Weslaco is firing on all cylinders right now behind Eric Gonzales. It won't be enough though as East will take it once again. WILDCATS 30-27!!
LSG Intern Zach Says: Somewhat of a tossup here between the crosstown rivals Weslaco and Weslaco East. The Wildcats dominated this matchup a season ago, blanking Weslaco 24-0 on the road. But this is a better Panther team than the one that went 5-6 a season ago, thanks to a potent rushing attack led by Eric Gonzales. Look for him to put up big numbers as the Panthers get revenge on the road. Panthers 28-21.
LSG Intern William Says: Weslaco East shut out Weslaco last year so Weslaco will be looking for revenge. After Weslaco lost their first game to Edcouch-Elsa they have gotten better and better as the season has progressed. Weslaco East seemed to have shaken off the beat down that Calallen gave them earlier in the season and even played a tight game against a very good McAllen squad. This game will certainly bring the town of Weslaco to a halt and I don’t think home field advantage will help Weslaco East any, since the two schools are only about three miles away. Panthers win 41-30.
LSG Writer Scott Says: In the second version of the Tinaco Bowl, Weslaco is looking to avenge a loss in the inaugural game to its newest rival. Weslaco has rattled off five straight victories following a season-opening loss to Edcouch-Elsa. Eric Gonzalez leads the way for Weslaco with 709 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. Weslaco East counts on Saul Cuellar, who has rushed for 729 yards and eight touchdowns this season. Weslaco East wins it, 21-17.
