A Return to Glory for Gobblers?

Updated: August 28, 2014
The Cuero Gobblers kick off the season Friday night at home against the Wharton Tigers and although we have them only ranked #7 in Class 4A DII, something could be in the air down in Cuero.
Coach Travis Reeve took over as Head Coach in 2012 - just three years after his father, Mark Reeve resigned as Athletic Director and Head Coach to become the defensive coordinator at Texas Lutheran University. In Mark's run at the helm for the Gobblers he compiled an 84-11 record (his worst season was 9-2) and took them to the state championship game in 2004 where they lost a tight one to Abilene Wylie 17-14. Travis was in his first year as an assistant coach that year.
Gobbler Stadium's renovation was recently concluded. The changes include turf upgrade and completely new seating in the stadium. There is a lot of excitement around the new facilities and the return of Gobbler Fever to the streets of Cuero.
Cuero's strongest District 15-4A DII opponent appears to be Sinton who knocked them out of the playoffs a year ago. Expect the two to battle it out for the crown. We should see big things from RB D'Anthony Hopkins and LB Zech Hopkins as they lead the offense and defense respectively.
A state title may not be in the cards this season, but football is definitely on an upswing and an 11th appearance in the title game could be coming soon.
