George Ranch Leaves No Doubt

2015 Texas high school football champions

Richmond George Ranch (16-0) vs. Mansfield Lake Ridge(15-1)
Texas High School Football Class 5A DI State Championship
8:00 p.m. Saturday, NRG Stadium, Houston

NRG Stadium - Richmond George Ranch Longhorns won their first state championship game with a convincing 56-0 victory over Mansfield Lake Ridge Eagles  in the Class 5A Division I championship game.   This was the first championship game for both George Ranch and Lake Ridge as both of the programs are only in their fourth year of varsity football.

Mansfield Lake Ridge entered the game with their two best players hobbled by injury.  Quarterback, Jett Duffey played but wasn't as electric as he has been all season.  Running back Duke Carter - the anchor of the running game - played only a few plays.

The Longhorns of Richmond George Ranch scored early and often.   The first quarter ended with them leading 14-0.  Most of it was on the ground with Josh Scruggs getting 2 touchdown runs to get the early lead.

George Ranch receiver Quinton Morris  scored on a 23 yard pass to make the score 21-0.   The Longhorn defense was very good throughout the first half.  They held Lake Ridge superstar quarterback Jett Duffey to 3 of 15 passing with 2 interceptions.  Overall Lake Ridge had 77 total yards while George Ranch had 248.  203 of those yards were on the ground.

The Longhorns turned it on in the 3rd quarter scoring 3 more touchdowns making it 42-0 to start the 4th.   The running game and the defense remained solid in the 4th and after two more touchdowns the game ended with the Longhorns up 56-0.  The win is the largest margin of victory for any Class 5A state championship game in the state's history.  The victory is also the second largest margin of victory of all time across all classes in a state championship game.
