Klein Collins Downs Cy Woods

VIDEO: Glenn McCarthy interviews Coach Drew Svoboda prior to the game

Bryson Powers Leads Klein Collins Against His Old Team

KLEIN -  Bryson Powers had seen it all before.  A bigger, stronger Klein Collins Tigers ball club push around the smaller Cypress Woods Wildcats.  Last year he and his star tailback C. J. Jones could not muster enough offense to hang with the larger Tigers in NRG stadium falling 62-21.  This year was completely different though for Powers.  He was now quarterbacking Klein Collins against his old team.  The result was the same again with Collins walking away with the game early and winning by more than three touchdowns, 42-14 Tigers.

Coach Drew Svoboda fresh off a great 9-2 season knows Powers can be a difference maker by himself this year.  Coach said this about his new/old QB and recent Harvard commit, “Its great to have him back, he’s phenomenal, he’s just a great young man to be around, he’s so likeable, really everything he brings. his physical ability running the ball, leadership, toughness, his intelligence, you couldn’t ask for anything else at quarterback.”  Boy howdy that’s some high praise and good enough for a recommendation to an Ivy League school.

Powers said he caught no flak from his former teammates during the game, “Not that I know of, It’s just football, at the end of the day I’m still friends with those guys, there’s no hard feelings its football.”  School transfers are nothing new in Texas high school football.  This one was just a bit more special in that Bryson Powers was facing his old team in the first game of the season.  Powers said this about his new/old teammates, “I played middle school football with them, and my dad coached football with them since I was probably 6 years old, so just being able to come back and play with them is a dream come true.”

Powers ran 17 times for 142 tough yards and 3 TDs and added 88 yards through the air.  He had help on the ground from RB  D’ Anthony Doyle stepping in for last seasons "all-everything" Justin Pratt who is now toting the rock for McNeese State in Lake Charles.

Next up for the Collins Tigers will be LSG’s #1 in the Houston area, the Katy Tigers.  Coach Svoboda had this to say about this coming huge matchup, “It doesn’t matter who you play you are going to turn over every stone, I cant fool anybody, they are a good team and we are going to have to bring our A game, we played good people in our past, Katy’s gonna bring a whole bunch of challenges.”
