Coach Phil Danaher Makes History
The biggest news story of the 2016 Texas high school football season undoubtedly has to be Coach Phil Danaher's surpassing G.A. Moore as the winningest coach in Texas high school football history. It almost had the perfect storybook ending as his Corpus Christi Calallen Wildcats came within 9 points of finishing this record-breaking season with his first ever state championship win.
Even without the state ring, Coach Danaher's success has been stunning:
- 33 consecutive winning seasons
- 27 consecutive bi-district wins
- 10+ win seasons 27 of last 31 years
- took over a 3-7 team that hadn't had a winning season in 6 years
- never had a losing season at Calallen

What does 2017 hold for Coach Danaher? Well, there is no official word yet on if 2016 would be his swan song, but sources close to the team tell me that there are a lot of young players on his team and another run to try for that elusive state championship ring may be in the cards for Coach Danaher and the Wildcats. The Cats are not ready for Coach Danaher to head anywhere.
