Crawford Pirates (14-1) vs. Refugio Bobcats (14-1)

AT&T Stadium - The Refugio Bobcats kicked a last second field goal to be the Crawford Pirates in the Class 2A Division I Championship game. This was their 4th state championship and their 8th championship game. This was Crawford's 3rd championship game. They won the 2004 title.

The teams traded possessions to open the game. Refugio scored on their 2nd time with the ball when Bobcat quarterback Jacobe Avery hit receiver Robert Ortiz for a scoring pass. The extra point was missed. With 1:58 left in the first, the Bobcats led 6-0. The first quarter ended with Refugio driving.

The teams traded punts to start the 2nd quarter and Refugio was forced to punt on their 2nd possession. The Pirates the went on a long drive and scored on a 21 yard pass from quarterback Gage Pearson to receiver Cade Johnston. A bobbled snap on the extra point forced the PAT to be no good. With 1:40 left in the half the score was tied 6-6. Refugio's Ortiz had a long kickoff return to the Crawford 14 to put the Bobcats in great position before halftime. Avery was able to run it in from the 4. The extra point was good bringing the score to 13-6 with 31 seconds left.

The half ended with Refugio leading 13-6.

Crawford started the 2nd half with the ball and drove down the field getting a touchdown when Garrett Dutschmann took it in from 2 yards out. That tied the score at 13 with 7:26 left in the 3rd quarter. The teams traded punts and the quarter ended with Refugio driving.

The Bobcats continued that drive and scored a touchdown when Avery ran it in from 17 yards out. That ended an 82 yard drive that consumed about 8 minutes. With 6:26 left in the game, the Bobcats led 20-13. Crawford responded with a quick score when Person threw a screen pass to Dutschmann who turned it into a 44 yard score. The score was tied 20-20 with 4:36 left. Refugio then drove the ball down to the Crawford 1 and Diego Gonzales kicked an 18 yard field goal with 8 seconds left. That gave the Bobcats an exciting 23-20 win.
