Kobie Herring - 2016 Class 2A Defensive Player of the Year
Refugio linebacker Kobie Herring won LSG's 2016 Class 2A Defensive Player of the Year award. He was also the Defensive Player Of The Year for the Associated Press and the Texas Sport Writers Association. Kobie's father Jason Herring won the 2016 Class 2A Coach of the Year
Herring led a dominating Bobcat defense to a 15-1 record and a Class 2A Division I State Championship. That Bobcat defense had 6 shutouts in the season and only gave up 73 points in 6 playoff games.
The 1st and 2nd runners-up for the 2016 award were:
- 1st Runner Up Evan Dayton - DB Mason 1st Team TSWA & AP
- 2nd Runner Up Xavier Waggoner - DL Electra 1st Team TSWA & AP
