A Thanksgiving With All the Trimmings
It is a long-standing tradition in Texas high school football circles that the goal for many teams is to be "still playing football Thanksgiving weekend." While the rest of the county and state are settling in for Cowboys on TV and turkey on the table, a lot of teams are preparing for this weekend's slate of games.
Normally, there are even less teams because it comes in the third round. Only 352 teams out of over 1500 playing the game are still alive today. That is something special.
There are great matchups around the state and just to whet your appetite, here are a few:
Austin Westlake (11-0) vs. Smithson Valley (10-1), 1 p.m. Friday, San Antonio's Alamo Stadium; Class 6A-DII
Kennedale (10-1) vs. Van (10-1), noon Friday, Frisco's Ford Center; Class 4A-DI
Odessa Permian (9-1) vs. Arlington Martin (10-1), 3:30 p.m. Friday, Arlington's Maverick Stadium; Class 6A-DII
San Angelo Central (11-0) vs. Mansfield (10-1), 7 p.m. Friday, Mansfield's Newsom Stadium; Class 6A-DII
Southlake Carroll (8-3) vs. DeSoto (10-1), 7 p.m. Saturday, Frisco's Ford Center; Class 6A-DII
Euless Trinity (9-2) vs. Duncanville (11-0), 12 noon Saturday, AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX 6A-DI
El Paso Del Valle (10-1) vs. Lubbock Coronado (11-0), 4 p.m. Friday, Roswell, N.M.'s Wool Bowl; Class 5A-DI
