Grandview Repeats Against a Tough Pottsboro Team

Jentsch Repeats as Double Award Winner
The Grandview Zebras (15-1) beat the Pottsboro Cardinals (15-1) 42-35 in a wild Class 3A Division I State Championship game. This made it back to back titles for the Zebras as they beat Malakoff 35-21 last year. This was Pottsboro's first title game.
After the teams traded punts, Pottsboro put together a 11 play 50 yard drive that ended with a Cy Shope 1 yard run. Pottsboro took the early lead 7-0. Grandview responded with a 61 yard drive that ended with a Tremayne Gullatte 4 yard run. That evened the score up at 7. Grandview got the ball at the Pottsboro 42 after Grandview linebacker Antonio Arellano recovered a fumble. Zebra quarterback Dane Jentsch ran it to the 1 as the quarter ended.
The Zebras scored on the 1st play of the 2nd quarter when Gullate scored from 1 yard out to make it 14-7. The Cardinals were not able to do anything on their next drive and punted. Grandview only needed 2 plays and 26 seconds to score again. Gullatte's 3rd touchdown run of the day, this time from 7 yards out was set up by a 42 yard pass play. The Zebras now led 21-7. Pottsboro got back into it with a 10 play 75 yard drive. They scored on a 15 yard pass from Braden Plyer to Jasek Hooker to make it 21-14. The Zebras then took it right down the field and scored on a Jentsch 5 yard run to make it 28-14 with 3:04 left until half. The Cardinals scored again with 51 seconds left when receiver Zac Talley caught a 29 yard pass to make it 28-21. That is how the quarter ended.
Grandview had a 72 yard touchdown pass called back by a penalty on their first drive. Pottsboro took it to the Grandview 1 yard line and they were stopped with a goal line stand. The Zebras then went on a 97 yard drive that ended with a Gullatte 6 yard run for a touchdown. That made it 35-21. Jentsch picked off a Pottsboro pass on their next possession. Grandview ball as the quarter ended.
Grandview was stopped on downs on their drive. Pottsboro took over and scored on a 53 yard pass to Jay Bradley. That made the score 35-28 with 9:26 remaining in the game. Grandview went to the running game and Gullatte scored his 5th touchdown of the game with a 20 yard run. The drive took 5:46 off of the clock. Grandview lad 42-28 with 3:34 left. Pottsboro was not done as Plyler ran in from 19 yards out with 2:21 remaining to make it 42-35.
