Lone Star Gridiron's Mike Forman interviews Head Coach David Lucio to discuss his team, the district, and more. Coach Lucio shares that the team has a lot coming back this year. They expect to return eight starters on defense and nine starters on offense.
A key area where the team is looking for someone to step up is the tailback position. Coach Lucio notes they lost both Jake and Duran, who had previously replaced Joseph Dodd. While there are athletes and potential players available, finding a new primary tailback is the biggest need. This new tailback will benefit from an experienced offensive line, where most players have started for three years and played in significant games, including up to the state championship or state semi-finals, which should create running lanes.
Coach Lucio also gives his impression of the district, describing it as tough as usual. He expects Boling to be a surprise to those outside the district, highlighting their returning young team. East Bernard is anticipated to be their usual competitive self, while Van Vleck and Rice Consolidated always have talent to work with. Brazos is also mentioned as a team to keep an eye on due to a new coaching staff.
The interview also includes a fun "lightning round" segment with quick questions for Coach Lucio, as well as insights into coaches he would prefer not to coach against (including his son) and who the funniest coach on his staff is.
