WALLIS, Texas: The playoff race in District 14-3A Division II takes center stage Friday, Oct. 23, at 7:30 p.m., when the Boling Bulldogs travel to Cougar Stadium to face Wallis Brazos in a matchup with major postseason implications.
Boling enters 3-4 overall and 2-1 in district play, with its lone district loss coming by one point against Rice Consolidated. The Bulldogs bounced back Friday night by defending their home field on homecoming with a 35-14 victory over Vanderbilt Industrial.
Brazos, meanwhile, is 6-2 overall and 2-2 in district play and is looking to respond after falling 54-31 at Rice Consolidated. According to the current district standings, Boling and Brazos sit in the third and fourth spots, making Friday’s meeting especially important as both programs fight for playoff positioning.
Players to Watch
For Brazos, wide receiver Jevan Dickerson is a player Boling will have to account for throughout the night. Dickerson is coming off a big performance in the loss to Rice, finishing with seven receptions for 137 yards and three receiving touchdowns while adding another touchdown on the ground. His four total touchdowns showed how important he has become to the revamped Brazos offense.
Linebacker Luke Polasek is another name to watch for the Cougars. A physical presence in the middle of the defense, Polasek has announced his commitment to Galveston College for baseball, according to his X account. His physical style will be important against a Boling offense that wants to establish the run.
For Boling, quarterback/defensive back Jace Urbanek gives the Bulldogs a playmaker on both sides of the football. Boling doesn’t throw the ball often, but Urbanek has shown he can be effective when called upon while also creating plays with his legs.
Running back Jerren Salinas will also be important for the Bulldogs. Salinas brings a combination of power and speed, with the ability to run between the tackles or get outside and create explosive plays at the second level.

The Matchup
For Brazos, one of the biggest keys is simple: find ways to get Dickerson the football. His four-touchdown performance against Rice showed how dangerous he can be, and the Cougars will want to create opportunities for him against the Boling secondary.
For Boling, the key is to stick with its identity and run the football, leaning on a deep group of backs that has consistently powered the Bulldogs’ offense.
That should provide a good test for a Brazos defense led by defensive coordinator Juan Olivo.
There isn’t much separating these programs, either. Last season’s meeting in Boling came down to the final moments, with Brazos escaping with a 34-33 victory after converting a two-point attempt.
With both teams currently sitting in the playoff picture, Friday night’s rematch carries even more weight.
