G-P Wildcats Find a Replacement For The Retiring George Harris

 

2011 Coaching Change -- Gregory-Portland Wildcats

Old Head Coach: George Harris -- Retiring after leading the Wildcats to a 89-36-0 record over 10 seasons. Previous to that Harris was the head coach at Refugio for 9 seasons going 106-17-1. He began his coaching career at G-P as an assistant in 1960. He stayed in that position for 22 seasons before going to Refugio initially as a defensive coordinator and later on taking over as head coach. Coach Harris has an overall record of 195-53-1 and ranks 81st on the all-time coaches win list. He is ranked #2 on the all-time coaching wins list at Gregory-Portland.

New Head Coach: Matt Anastasio -- Was the defensive coordinator at Austin Westlake for the last two seasons. Before that he was the defensive coordinator at Odessa Permian. Anastasio graduated from Gregory-Portland in 1990.

Team News: The Wildcats are on a 4 year winning streak and have 10 winning seasons in the last 11 years. There two biggest rivals are Corpus Christi Calallen and Corpus Christi Carroll. They are 30-24-1 all-time record vs. Calallen including playoff loss in 2010 and everyone always enjoys the "Battle Of The Bridge" vs. Carroll.
