2012 Lone Star Gridiron Spirit Bowl

Lone Star Gridiron is proud to announce being named the Title Sponsor for the 2012 Lone Star Gridiron Spirit Bowl to be held June 29, 2012 in Moody, Texas. The Lone Star Gridiron Spirit Bowl is a fresh take on the Senior All-Star game idea in that it will feature Texas Private & Parochial Schools playing against 1A-3A Texas public schools.

In this inaugural bowl game, the public schools are expected to be (but not limited to) players from the Central Texas Region 1A-3A Class schools. By next season, it is expected that players from around the state will be involved.

I thought it was against rules to play games out of season? How does this work? How is it UIL legal?

Good question, here is the related rule:

School Personnel. No athletic director, coach, teacher, school administrator or school district shall at any time assist directly or indirectly with the coaching, management, direction, selection of players, promotion or officiating in any all-star game in which one or more of the competing teams is composed of one or more players who have eligibility remaining in that sport.

To avoid conflict with UIL regulations, most all-star games only allow Seniors to play and after they have used their high school football eligibility. If an all-star game was played with underclassmen, no school personnel would be allowed to participate.
