The Aledo Bearcats survived a late combeback bid by the Mavericks from Manvel to win their 3rd consecutive state championship. This was Aledo's 4th all-time championship. Manvel was in their first championship game since beginning varsity play in only 2008.
Aledo led this one 28-7 at the half. Manvel seemed to be nervous dropping passes and having penalties. They settled down in the 2nd half though and made the game 28-21 behind the passing of Shane Mccarley. The Bearcats superstar running back Jonathan Gray scored his first touchdown of the game though with 6:49 remaining in the game to give Aledo a commanding 42-28 lead. That touchdown by Gray broke the national record for most touchdowns in a career by a player with 205.
Bearcat quarterback Matthew Bishop was the Offensive Player Of The Game with 13 completions on 16 attempts for 172 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also ran for 2 other touchdowns. Defensive lineman Jaylen Hill was the Defensive Player Of The Game. Wide Receiver Michael Mann caught 1 pass for 6 yards in the game. Gray carried the ball 30 times for 241 yards and scored a touchdown.
