Notes:
* Move up to Class 5A for the first time in the schools history after making it to their first state championship game last year
- Mike Says: The Panthers will be one of the better teams in the state even with the move to Class 5A. Lots of key juniors return from that team including star RB B.J. Kelly. They will also be strong at WR with Jarmon. With all that said, their defense will be one of the best also. It will be hard for coach Gambill to maintain his 85% winning percentage as a head coach but they should not be far from it. Look for them to go 8-2 or 9-1 in the regular season and win the district championship. They will be a Division II team in the playoffs and should be able to go 2 or 3 rounds before being challenged.
- Chris Says: Waco Hewitt Midway has done some amazing things at the Class 4A level, but move up to play with the big boys now. The Panthers bring back a ton of experience from last year. For the smallest school in the district to be the favorite to win 8-5A, may sound like a stretch, but some of the other schools graduated a lot too. I expect their toughest competition will come from Copperas Cove and regardless of the district title or not, the Panthers will do well in the playoffs.
