Round Rock Westwood SQT Pools

Round Rock Westwood will be hosting a 24 team 7-on-7 SQT this Saturday May 23rd. It looks like the best that Central Texas has to offer will be there. Three teams will qualify for the state championship that will be held at College Station in July. Here are the pools, key players and of course my predictions.

Pool A : Round Rock Westwood, Marble Falls, Dripping Springs, Lockhart

The host Round Rock Westwood should come out of this one. They will be led by RB Princeton Collins (1525 yards rushing in 2008 4.45 speed) and DB Tyson Brower. Lockhart will probably be their most difficult game with RB Dominique Hardaway (1974 rushing yards in 2008) leading the way. Marble Falls and Dripping Springs will keep things close.

Mikes Pick: Round Rock Westwood

Pool B : Hutto, Pflugerville Connally, Del Valle, Austin Anderson

This pool will feature two very good TE's. Hutto has Nehemiah Hicks (6-3, 215, 4.7 committed to Texas A&M) and Austin Anderson will showcase Stanley Kurunwune. Pflugerville Connally will have WR Anthony Bryant and LB Zak Aossey leading the way for them. Del Valle will have a tough time in this pool.

Mikes Pick: Pflugerville Connally

Pool C : Cedar Park, Copperas Cove, Bastrop, New Braunfels Canyon

Cedar Park will be led by RB Darren Thornhill, LB Garrett Quick and LB Joey Nichol. The always dangerous Copperas Cove will feature RB Brandin Byrd (1061 yards rushing in 2008). Bastrop and New Braunfels Canyon will be behind these two teams.

Mikes Pick: Copperas Cove

Pool D : Georgetown, Pasadena Dobie, Killeen Harker Heights, Pflugerville Hendrickson

The 2007 7-on-7 Champion Georgetown will have one of the best WR's of the tournament in Adriane Rocha (70-857 in 2008). Pasadena Dobie is traveling out of the Houston area and will be led by DB Maurice Poullard. Killeen Harker Heights will be relying on RB Kerry Sloan (1217 rushing in 2008). Pflugerville Hendrickson will try to keep things close.

Mikes Pick: Georgetown

Pool E : Round Rock, Brenham, Austin Bowie, Austin Lake Travis

This is a very talented pool of teams. Round Rock will be led by a pair of RB's James McKinney 731 rushing yards in 2008) and Jordan Wells (1284 rushing yards in 2008). Their defense will be led by DB Jeremy McKnight. Brenham went 0-3 last week at the Manvel SQT but they only lost by a total of 21 points in all 3 games. Their key players will be WR's Craig Anderson and Terrell Reese and DB Jeremy Hall. Austin Bowie will showcase a few good receiving targets in TE DeAndre Perry TE (6-3, 210, 4.7 35-508 in 2008) and WR Montra Nelson (Committed to Oklahoma State). The team everyone will be watching is Austin Lake Travis. Garrett Gilber has moved on and now it is JR QB Michael Brewers turn. He is the son of former Longhorns quarterback Robert Brewer. They will also bring some other talented players in LB Quinton Crow, DB Ian Lazarus and ATH Andy Erickson.

Mikes Pick: Austin Lake Travis

Pool F : Cedar Park Vista Ridge, Abilene Cooper, Round Rock McNeil, Pflugerville

Cedar Park Vista Ridge will be led by RB Calvin Thompson and DB Michael Pickett. Abilene Cooper will be making the trip from East Texas and will showcase WR Tommy Bowman. Round Rock McNeil will bring a very talented team lead by LB Kurt Killens (Committed to Houston), LB Hunter Price (Committed to Oklahoma State) and DB Landon Sams. Pflugerville will try to keep things close.

Mikes Pick: Round Rock McNeil
