Abilene State Qualifying Tournament Pools
-
Updated: June 11, 2009
Here are the teams, pools, key players, stats and of course my predictions for the Abilene State Qualifying Tournament.
Pool A: Abilene, San Angelo Central, Levelland, Fort Worth Western Hills
The host Abilene will be playing in their first SQT this year and is always a tough out. San Angelo Central, Levelland and Fort Worth Western Hills are all making thier first SQT appearance of the year also.
Mike's Pick: Abilene
Pool B: Abilene Cooper #2, Temple, Stephenville, Snyder
Temple has not played well this year in SQT play but they may bring their star RB Lache Seastrunk this time. He could be the difference maker. Stephenville lost in the semifinals last week at Southlake Carroll to Plano East. They are a good team with a 33-21 win over Temple. 3A Snyder will see their first SQT action in the 4 years we have been covering this event. They always have good athletes and it would be fun to see them in a Division II field. The question I have is...what happens if the Abilene Cooper #2 team wins a state spot? Can they send 2 teams to the state tournament?
Mike's Pick: Stephenville
Pool C: Abilene #2, Odessa, Fort Worth Paschal, Georgetown
Fort Worth Paschal has gone 3-3 this year in SQT play and will do well in this pool. Georgetown is 1-5 this year and is trying to find what they had when they won it all a few years back. Odessa will be playing in their first SQT this year.
Mike's Pick: Fort Worth Paschal
Pool D: Abilene Cooper*, Abilene Wylie, Eastland
Wow, pool D comes down to Class 3A Abilene Wylie vs. Class 2A Eastland. A small school will get a chance in the semifinals to play in the Division I Championships. It would be fun to see Abilene Wylie play in a Division II SQT.
Mike's Pick: Abilene Wylie
Semifinals:
Abilene vs. Stephenville
Fort Worth Paschal vs. Abilene Wylie
Mike's Picks: Stephenville and Fort Worth Paschal
Mike's Championship Pick: Stephenville
