WIMBERLEY - It had been a very hard fought battle in their past few meetings but someone forgot to tell the Cuero Gobblers this time around. Rather than last years' 49-42 and 43-35 victories over Cuero, Wimberley took this one easily 34-6.
Early on, it looked as though it would be a defensive battle, but the Texans' offense started a steady assault on the Gobblers that saw them up 34-0 before the Gobblers could get on the board. Wimberley quarterback Brady Lambert completed 10 of 20 passes for 268 yards, including touchdowns of 5, 8, 30, and 47 yards.
Trailing 34-0 late in the game, Cuero ended the shutout when Darius Mathis returned a punt 49 yards for a touchdown.
Next up for the Wimberley Texans is a road trip to rival Dripping Springs.
