Lufkin takes East Texas Showdown over Tyler John Tyler

In one of Lone Star Gridiron's Games of the Week - the Lufkin Panthers took home a 34-31 over Tyler John Tyler. This game was a classic battle of East Texas powerhouses that featured and back-and-forth battle that wasn't settled until late in the fourth quarter.
Tyler John Tyler landed the first blow when Fred Ross took a Greg Ward pass 89 yards which was quickly followed up by a Ross run for 73 yards. Lufkin responded late in the first quarter cutting the lead to 14-7.
The second quarter was all Panthers and all Jamarcus Walker. He scored his second and third touchdowns of the game just before halftime and Lufkin went into the break up 21-14.
The Lions of Tyler again drew first blood in the second half, again with a long strike when DeVonte Haggerty scrambled 62 yards to tie it up. The two teams traded scores to end the quarter but Lufkin's missed extra point left them down going into the last period 28-27.
Lufkin's defense again stepped up in the 4th, holding Tyler to just a 33 yard field goal. Nick Cox delivered a 28 yard pass to Jamal Jeffrey with less than five minutes remaining to give Lufkin the final lead and the victory 34-31.
