* Have now made it to at least the Regionals for 4 consecutive years

  • Mike Says: The Sandcrabs Coach Whitaker has done a truly impressive job at turning this program around. Last year they had an unheard of four 1,000 yard rushers. They only bring back 6 starters and 15 lettermen from that team so this year will be difficult. Look for them to continue to run the ball well and go 7-3 or 6-4 in the regular season and finish 2nd or 3rd in the district behind Corpus Christi Calallen. They will go Division II in the playoffs and go 1 or 2 rounds.
  • Chris Says: As much a love me some Port Lavaca Calhoun Sandcrabs, it is not going to be an easy road for them this season.  They only bring back one starter on last years powerful offense.  Their defense too is decimated by graduation.  What do they have going for them?  The Sandcrabs have a community that is 100% behind their team.  They have a head coach, Richard Whitaker, who has turned the team into a legitimate Gulf Coast power.  They have a couple of great defensive players in Klamm and Robinson who will help the new teammates step up quickly.  Plus, they have one of the coolest mascots in all of Texas high school football!  No boring Eagles, Lions or Bears here - we are talking Sandcrabs!!!  Expect them to surprise a lot of people.
