Touchdown Club of Houston UIL High School Football Award Winners

The Touchdown Club of Houston held their annual UIL High School Awards Dinner, presented by the Methodist Center for Sports Medicine, at the JW Marriott Wednesday, December 12th at 7 PM. Each year, this award dinner is held to celebrate the best players and coach in the Houston area. The finalists for the award were a phenomenal group of athletes and coaches.
- The winner for Offensive Player of the Year in Greater Houston UIL schools was Shane McCarley of Manvel High School.
- McCarley returned after helping Manvel to the 4A Div. I title game last season. He completed 65 percent of his passes (227-of-349), throwing for 4,101 yards and 55 touchdowns. A threat to run as well, the senior rushed for five scores and averaged more than 7 yards a carry.
- McCarley led the Mavericks to 25 wins in two seasons and is a verbal commitment to Old Dominion.
- The winner for the Defensive Player of the Year in Greater Houston UIL schools Deon Hollis of Fort Bend Marshall High School.
- Hollins led Marshall to a 13-1 season and an appearance in the 4A Div. II regional finals.
- Hollins finished the year with 66 total tackles - 56 solo and 36 for loss. He had 15 sacks, 23 hurries and forced a pair of fumbles.
- Hollins is verbally committed to the UCLA Bruins.
- The winner for the Coach of the Year in Greater Houston UIL schools Tom Nolen of Houston Lamar High School.
- Coach Nolen and his Lamar Redskins will play in the State Semifinals this Saturday against San Antonio O'Connor at 3 pm in Austin.
- Coach Nolen has been at Lamar for over 30 years and picked up his 250th career win this year in his team's regular-season finale. Coach Nolen was selected from a decorated field that combined for 117 victories to 17 losses.
- Only one other Coach from HISD has been named Coach of the Year, that was Ray Seals in 1998 (Madison High School).
