Lone Star Gridiron 2014 Texas high school football players of the year

Winner: DL Daylon Mack (Gladewater)

Defensive lineman, Daylon Mack made recorded 82 tackles including 37 tackles for a loss in the 2014 season. More-so than his numbers, Mack got everyone's attention by how physical he was against some of the tougher competition.  He quickly became the most highly recruited defensive linemen in the state.  Daylon anchored a defense that held opponents to 14 or fewer points a total of seven times last year.

2. LB Clay Johnston (Abilene Wylie)

Linebacker Clay Johnston had a total of 136 tackles in the 2014 season.

3. DB Deionte Thompson (West Orange-Stark)

The 6' 1" 175lb defensive back, Deionte Thompson was on a state champion runner up team in 2014.  He became the most sought-after DB prospect in the state.

4. DL David Bearden (Argyle)

Defensive lineman David Bearden had a total of 92 tackles, 27 tackles for a loss and 12 sacks for the 2014 season.
