2016 Class 3A Coach of the Year

Joe Drennon wins 2016 Class 3A Coach of the Year

Joe Drennon led Mineola to the Class 3A Championship in 2016. This was the 2nd time in three years for the Yellow Jackets to make the big game. The Yellow Jackets finished the year with a 14-2 overall record.

Coach Drennon has gone 74-36 since taking over the Yellow Jackets in 2008. He is the all-time coaching wins leader at Mineola. The last 3 years have been really good for the Yellow Jackets and Coach Drennon going 40-6. That success led to Coach Drennon getting a Class 5A head coaching position with Hallsville. His other head coaching jobs have been at Corsicana Mildred (4 years 21-19) and Texarkana Liberty-Eylau (4 years 20-21). He has an all-time coaching record of 118-76. That puts him in a tie for 368th place all-time for coaching wins.

Coach Drennon was a runner-up for the LSG Class 3A Coach of the Year award in 2014

Each year, the winners are selected by a compilation of votes submitted from coaches, Brotherhood members, fans and LSG staff. Each group's votes are compiled and then added into to the final weighted tally. In winning the award, Coach Drennon beat out some serious competition.

The 1st and 2nd runners-up for the 2016 award were:

  • Stephen Dorr - Boling (won the Coaches poll)
  • Bo Robinson - Yoakum (won the Brotherhood poll)
