Michael Purcell wins 2016 Class 6A Defensive Player of the Year
The Woodlands Defensive Lineman, Michael Purcell is the winner of the LSG 2016 Class 6A Defensive Player of the Year award.
Purcell headed up a Highlander defense that led his team to the Championship game. During the season, that defense kept their opponents to 7 or less points (6) times. Purcell was also named 1st Team All-State by the Associated Press and by the Texas Sports Writers Association.
The 1st and 2nd runners-up for the 2016 award were:
- 1st Runner Up Levi Jones - LB Austin Westlake, 1st Team All-State AP, 3rd Team All-State TSWA
- 2nd Runner Up Caden Sterns - DB Cibolo Steele 1st Team All-State AP, Honorable Mention All-State TSWA State Runner Up Team
