Doug Warren wins 2017 Class 4A Coach of the Year
Doug Warren coached the Wimberley Texans to a 13-2 record despite being predicted my many "experts" as likely to miss the playoffs. Only one loss in the regular season saw the Texans not only winning District 13-4A DII but still being considered underdogs against teams like Cuero (which they defeated 44-36) before dropping their final game in a close one to West Orange-Stark in the Semifinal round.
Coach Warren has led the Texans since 2013.
Each year, the winners are selected by a compilation of votes submitted from coaches, Brotherhood members, fans and LSG staff. Each group's votes are compiled and then added into to the final weighted tally. In winning the award, Coach Warren beat out some serious competition.
The 1st and 2nd runners-up for the 2016 award were:
- Josh Gibson - Texarkana Pleasant Grove (won the LSG in-house poll)
- Lee Wiginton - Midlothian Heritage (won the Brotherhood poll)
