2017 Class 5A Coach of the Year

Huff wins 2017 Class 5A Coach of the Year

Steve Huff led the College Stations Cougars to their 1st ever State Championship in team history in 2017. The relatively new team just started playing varsity football in 2014 and Huff has been the only coach the Cougars have ever had. In the four seasons, his team has gone 46-9 (83.6%.) Coach Huff was previously an assistant at A&M Consolidated from 2000-2006, where he served as Consolidated's Offensive Coordinator from 2003-2006. His previous head coaching experience was at Midwest City in Oklahoma. His record there was 60-12.

Each year, the winners are selected by a compilation of votes submitted from coaches, Brotherhood members, fans and LSG staff. Each group's votes are compiled and then added into to the final weighted tally. In winning the 2017 Class 5A Coach of the Year, Huff came in first in the LSG in-house poll, the Coaches Poll and the Fan poll giving him the largest margin of victory in the history of the award.

The 1st and 2nd runners-up for the 2017 award were:

  • Randy Allen - Dallas Highland Park (won the Brotherhood poll)
  • Kirk Martin - Manvel (won the Coaches poll)
