2011 Coaching Change: Callisburg Wildcats
Old Head Coach: Jerry Bomar -- Leaves for 3A Orange Grove after he announced that he was retiring shortly after the season was over. He led the Wildcats to a 41-38-0 record during his seven seasons there. He leaves as the all-time wins leader at Callisburg. Before he arrived, the Wildcats had just finished the 2003 season at 0-10 and they had never won a playoff game. During his time with the Wildcats, they won 6 playoff games including a trip to the Class 2A state semifinals in 2009. His other coaching jobs have been at Atlanta 1982-1985 (21-19), Groesbeck 1989-1991 (28-8), Killeen 1992-1995 (30-14) and Grand Prarie 1996-2003 (39-41). He has an overall coaching record of 165-120-0. The 165 wins puts him at #171 on the all-time coaching wins list. Every job except for Killen, he took over a struggling program and built it up. His 1991 Groesbeck team won the Class 3A state championship. He also worked as an assistant coach at Mesquite and Texarkana. Coach Bomars son is Rhett Bomar, who is a backup quarterback with the Minnesota Vikings and played his college ball at Sam Houston State.
New Head Coach: Kevin Hayes -- Was 3A Athens offensive coordinator for the last 2 seasons. Before that Hayes was the head coach at 2A/3A Teague where he led the Lions for 15 seasons to an overall 87-71-0 record. His teams there made the playoffs 8 times.
Team News: The Wildcats finished 2010 with a 2-8 record which ended a 4 year winning streak. The 2 wins was a 10 game drop after finishing 12-3 in 2009.
