Pflugerville Weiss Wins Thriller Over College Station

Friday night's meeting between Weiss and College Station felt familiar, at least at first.
The Wolves entered halftime with a double-digit lead for the third straight meeting against the Cougars, and history suggested trouble was coming. In the two previous matchups, Weiss watched halftime advantages disappear in the second half as College Station rallied to victory.
When the Cougars mounted another comeback Friday at The Pfield, the script appeared headed for the same ending. This time, however, Weiss refused to let history repeat itself.
Powered by two blocked extra points and a decisive stop on a game-tying two-point conversion attempt in the final minutes, the Wolves held off College Station for a dramatic 40-38 victory.
In the first half, Weiss was in control. The Wolves jumped out to a 14-3 lead in the first quarter courtesy of a six-yard touchdown keeper by quarterback Jaxon Schad and a 34-yard pass from Schad to receiver Jordan Ibn-Anderson. College Station kicker Jacob Lopez netted field goals of 37 and 32 yards in response to each touchdown. The Cougars found the end zone in the second quarter on a 34-yard pass from Symak to receiver Kash Adams. Weiss responded with a 25-yard touchdown pass to receiver Tre Moore and an 18-yard touchdown pass to Anderson.
After a sluggish start to the second half, College Station began to find its rhythm. Running back Trey Walton scored on a 28-yard touchdown run, but the Wolves blocked the extra point. On the Cougars' next offensive series, Symank called his own number for a five-yard touchdown keeper. As with the previous touchdown, Weiss blocked the extra point. The Cougars' defense also pinned its ears back and forced Weiss to punt on its first three possessions in the second half.
Early in the fourth quarter, the Weiss defense made one of its biggest plays of the night. Weiss defensive lineman Tyler Hall knocked the ball loose from Symank, and the Wolves recovered the ball at the College Station 31-yard line. The turnover set up a 16-yard catch for Tre Moore's second touchdown of the night.
On the ensuing drive, Weiss defensive back Brandon Washington made an interception that appeared to seal the game. However, on the first play of the drive, College Station defensive back Aidan Divin returned the favor with an interception of his own. The Cougars wasted little time capitalizing on the turnover. Symank needed only one play to find Adams for a 75-yard touchdown strike. With the game on the line, the Wolves' special teams got the massive stop on the two-point conversion to preserve the Weiss victory.
After the game, Weiss Head Coach Malcolm Hill praised his team for their resilience. Hill said that the team's word for the week was "endure." Hill said the message challenged his players to embrace adversity rather than be discouraged by it, a mindset that proved critical during College Station's second-half rally.
